ToggleWho we are
Our website address is: https://befound.ie. Yes, we’re Irish. No, we don’t have a pot of gold at the end of our server rack.
Comments
When you leave comments on our site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, plus your IP address and browser user agent string. This isn’t because we’re nosy – it’s to help catch those delightful spam bots who want to tell everyone about miracle weight loss supplements.
We may send an anonymized string created from your email (a “hash” for the tech-savvy among you) to the Gravatar service. This is to see if you’re using it, not because we’re trying to join some secret email hash collection club. The Gravatar privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture becomes visible to the public – so maybe reconsider that “after 12 tequila shots” selfie.
Media
If you upload images to our website, perhaps consider not including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Unless, of course, you want random internet strangers to know exactly where your cat was sitting when you took that adorable photo. Visitors can download and extract this data faster than you can say “privacy violation.”
Cookies
We use cookies. Not the delicious chocolate chip kind, unfortunately. If you leave a comment, you may opt-in to saving your name, email, and website in cookies. These last for one year, which is approximately 364 days longer than actual cookies last in most homes.
When you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and disappears when you close your browser – kind of like your motivation to exercise.
Upon logging in, we set up several cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies for a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login persists for two weeks – which is longer than most of our New Year’s resolutions.
If you edit or publish an article, we save another cookie. It includes no personal data and simply identifies which post you edited. It expires after 1 day – much like our patience for reading actual privacy policies.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles may include embedded content (videos, images, articles, etc.). These act exactly as if you visited the other website. They may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content. It’s like inviting a friend to your house who then invites 15 other people you don’t know.
Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email. Not because we want to shame you for forgetting your password, but because that’s just how the system works.
How long we retain your data
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. It’s not that we’re hoarders; we just like to be efficient.
For registered users, we store the personal information provided in their profiles. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information anytime (except usernames – those are forever, like diamonds or awkward high school memories).
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of your personal data. You can also request that we erase your data. This doesn’t include data we must keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes – or that embarrassing comment you made at 3 AM that we’ve all screenshotted anyway.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Because nothing says “welcome to our site” like algorithms silently judging your writing.
I am the founder and manager of BeFound SEO and the main consultant. I started offering SEO services back in 2007 when I had to explain SEO, as most people had no idea what it was and how much it could help their business online. I still love seeing the results from SEO.
